Backlink Checker 2.0 is ready….But we need YOUR help!

Hi All,

We have been hard at work, improving our backlink checker on various fronts. Well, actually, anything would be an improvement on the current version….as it currently doesn’t work for most of you :(

Our version 2.0 is a massive step-up in both speed and accuracy. We have a demo of it here. Please note that we have temporarily disabled the “Home Page PR” option so as to not put too much strain on our limited number of proxies.

The new tool relies on an expanded base of proxies which give much greater speed by allowing the tool to check multiple backlinks simutaneously. Using many proxies also gives greater reliability, by spreading Google pagerank queries over a broad IP address range, thus avoiding temporary bans for too many queries in a short time (Let me just clarify that our backlink checker tool does not scrape sites, it functions perfectly within Googles Terms Of Service. However, too many legal queries in a short time does tend to upset them).

When you try out version 2.0, you may get some “missing links”, where you will see links 1,2,3,6,7,8,11,12,13 etc. This is beause a few of our proxies are poor quality, these will be replaced.

This is where you come into the picture. For the tool to be fast and reliable, we need plenty of proxies. One way to do this is for us to set up web hosting accounts with dozens of different quality hosting companies in order to create proxies with a good variety of c-class IP addresses. This would cost us big money, and we would either need to drop the tool, or start charging money for the service to pay for the hosting.

OR

If all of you who enjoy and benefit from the tool, and have a spare 500mb or so bandwidth per month on your hosting, save this tiny piece of code below as pr.php in your root directory, you could help us share the burden and keep the tool free and fast. Each proxy added makes the tool substantially faster! It also lightens the bandwidth usage for all proxies. The code is as follows:

<?
if(!ini_get(”allow_url_fopen”))
{
die(”Bad hosting!”);
}
if(!@$_GET['url'])
{
die(”Good hosting!”);
}
readfile($_GET['url']);

It could be any PHP4 or PHP5 enabled hosting. To have the proxy script on your site is perfectly safe. The one exception would be if you’re one of the rare people who have added an online SEO tool to their website which also queries the Google toolbar.

If you need help to set it up, or have any questions, please just email us.

If you decide to stop contributing to the tool, you could delete the file at any time and the tool will automatically compensate for the removed proxy.

So, do you like what you see with the version 2.0 demo? Users the world over would love you to lend a hand. So would we! After adding the code to your site, please just send us a quick email with the exact URL where you copied it to, and we will add it to the tool’s list of proxies. Thanks in advance!

    As indicated via email, I run a web hosting company and can provide you with some subdomains with a few gigs of bandwidth each. That should help you out.

    I have been wondering, what does the link count stand for?

    @ Bruce, Amir and Barry,
    Thanks so much for the support, especially much as you all have offered multiple hosts (IPs) for the proxies! Your helping out will make a big difference with speed and stability.

    We hope that more can help too, as it will mean even greater performance for the backlink checker. :)

    @ Matt
    This is the total number of links found on the page where your backlink was found. The lower the number, the better, as you share your Pagerank credit with fewer people.

    It’s a hell of a tool, never found any other backlink checker with similar accuracy. Best luck with V2, you guys should put up a paypal donate button!

    This is a great tool. The best that I have found. I have added the code to two of my websites, and sent you an email.

    I have also blogged about it on http://joeldrapper.com along with other backlink checking tools, but said that this was my personal favourite.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks for this tool, incredibly useful and nicely executed. Not sure if it’s me but can’t get the CSV export to work? Would be superb if that can be fixed, and any danger of a nicely formatted PDF export too? I can print to PDF from Firefox with doPDF but it isn’t very tidy.
